Bio

Alessandra Marrucchi is an Italian figurative painter. She was born in Florence in 1951, after her high school diploma in arts, Alessandra attended a degree course in Architecture at the University of Florence. Then she studied graphic design at the Cappiello Academy and had classes of nude at the Academy of Belle Arti in Florence for two years.
She regularly studied at Studio Simi in 1973-74, 1976-79, 1980-1982. These years have been the basis of her artistic training. This historic atelier was known and frequented by painters from all over the world.

In 1979 she was in the United States attending classes of portrait and nude at the University of California at Berkeley and landscape lessons at the Institute of Arts and Crafts in Oakland. Back in Florence, Alessandra started teaching painting and drawing, encouraged by her teacher, Nera Simi.
She participated in exhibitions and competitions.
In 1991 she exhibited her paintings at the Mall Galleries in London, with some of her colleagues from Studio Simi: Stella Ehrich, Joke Frima and Anne Shingleton.
From 1984 to 1997 she lived in Pisa, participating at the activities of the Pisan Artists Association. From 1988 to 1990 she was a member of the association Hundred Painters of Via Margutta in Rome and exhibited her works in several galleries in the city. In her atelier she worked with dedication and perseverance, creating still life paintings and numerous portrait commissions, using various techniques: oil, pastel, sanguine and charcoal.
Returning to Florence, she spent some time restoring old historical buildings, but in the last few years she started painting regularly again. She also continuing to enrich her art with insights into printmaking, botanical watercolor and sculpture.

Alessandra has always specialised in portraiture and figurative art. From Signorina Simi she learned how to use traditional techniques of the 19th century tradition, to represent her own way of looking at the world.

In 2018 one of her paintings My daughter was selected by The Representational Art Conference - TRAC 2018 in Leeuwarden (Holland), another portrait won the 3rd prize at the Competition Arts in Rome “The Portrait”. In 2019 her painting Self-Portrait in Evening Dress was selected as one of the finalists in the 14th International ARC Salon International Competition. Another portrait, Victoria, has been selected for Figurativas 2019 – 10th International Painting and Sculpture Competition in Barcelona, Spain.
In 2020 with her painting "Two self-portraits and a lot of life in the middle" Alessandra has been awarded Best Artist Over 65 in the 2020 PleinAir Salon, February / March Competition and, with the same painting, she won the first prize in the Best Artist's Studio category at The Artist & Selfie Painting Competition, organized by Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine. In 2021 with two paintings, Two self-portraits and a lot of life in the middle Alessandra was awarded as Best Artist Over 65 at the Plein Air Salon, Competition February/March 2020. With the same painting, she won first prize in the Best Artist's in the Studio category at The Artist & Selfie Painting Competition, organized by Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine. In the 2021 Alessandra portraits were shown at Seen Realistically Exhibition - Munte in Belgium, with her colleagues Anne Shingleton and Joke Frima. In the same year she was selected as a semifinalist at the 15th ARC Salon International Competition NY, with two paintings, Two self-portraits and a lot of life in the middle and The contemporary.
Her paintings are often exhibited in Florentine galleries and published in the most important art magazines (Fine Art Connoisseur, Plein Air, South West Art). As a member of Salmagundi Club, participated in the annual exhibition in New York with the painting Victoria.
With Self-Portrait with Pearl Earrings she was awarded second place in the non-commissioned portrait category in the 2021 members-only international competition at The Portrait Society of America. In 2022, the same self-portrait received the Certificate of Excellence of the International Portrait Competition at the Annual Art of the Portrait Conference in Atlanta. In September 2022 together with other artists, who studied with her at Studio Simi, she exhibited at Villa Bertelli, in Forte dei Marmi, Italy. Alessandra Marrucchi in the same year was present at the Lineage: Generations of Realism exhibition at the Salmagundi Club in New York. She was awarded in the double category, Figure and Portrait in the 16th ARC Salon International Competition with Exhibition at Sotheby's NY in May 2023.
She was also selected at the 6th International Figure Painting Competition NTD for an exhibition at the Salmagundi Club in New York where she received the “Outstanding Technique Award”.
In May 2024 one of her portrait will be exhibited at MEAM, European Museum of Modern Art, in Barcelona and will be part of the 2023 ModPortrait Catalogue.
